Heatseekers have a fleet of thermal imaging vans that are taking images of residential properties to highlight energy loss and the importance of insulation. A MapServer/PostGIS solution is triggering the camera as it passes a property (using OS Addresspoint) based on the GPS-derived location of the van.
MapInfo Pro is used to help generate the routes for the van which are uploaded via the mobile network to each van each day. This means that routes can be easily prioritised by the routeplanner at Heatseekers HQ in Leicester. Results of thermal scanning are downloaded to a central database (also OpenSource - Firebird) and viewed as thematic maps in MapInfo using the live, realtime data.
